Tuuli Kanervankallio earned her bachelor’s degree in Screenwriting from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in 2018. That same year, she joined the writing team at Helsinki-filmi, one of the leading production companies in the Nordic region. Tuuli spent over five years as a full-time, in-house writer at the company, contributing to several drama productions and writing two feature films. Tuuli is a 2024 graduate of the prestigious Serial Eyes program in Berlin and her recent work includes writing two episodes for the upcoming mystery thriller Icebreaker (winner of the 2024 MIPDrama Award at Cannes), and the screenplay for the critically acclaimed children’s feature film Itty Bitty Princess, based on the popular book series by Hannele Lampela.

Due her own background Tuuli has a strong interest in exploring working class characters. She loves to write about the life of underdogs, as well as explore unconventional and problematic family dynamics, and she enjoys challenging traditional romantic narratives. Passionate about animal and human rights, as well as environmental issues, Tuuli strives to incorporate these values into her work. She excels at creating deep comedies and absurdly humorous dramas, and she is particularly drawn to satire and magical realism. She is fascinated by dystopian and fantasy worlds, and she believes non-realistic storytelling can be a great way to address social issues.
