Yuliya Pogrebnyak was born in Minsk and lived in St Petersburg before settling in Ruotsinpyhtää where she lives in and renovates a historical (1788) house. She has Master’s Degree in Screenwriting (TAMK, 2022) and an MBA. Her short film GET READY. OFF TO THE FEAST, 2021 (dir. L. Sogomonian) was selected in the official selection for Clermont-
Ferrand ISFF in 2022.

Interests:
One of my favorite genres is coming-of-age drama. Both teenagers and older characters, as they each fight for the same thing – the freedom to be themselves and to achieve independence, equally fascinate me. Injustice and violence toward women, outsiders, and minorities always trigger and provoke me. Questions of power is what I am always eager to explore in my works.
I am interested in controversial, provocative heroes and heroines who are hard to categorize as purely good or bad. The grey area is where I aim to go, not for answers but for questions that are painful and choices that are definitive.
